NUJ Anambra State Council Strengthens Ties with 2024 Man of the Year

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council held a cordial meeting with High Chief Dr. Chinedu Umeadi (Agunechemba Abagana), their 2024 Man of the Year, at his residence in Abagana on Thursday, February 27, 2025. The event marked a warm reunion as members of the union visited Dr. Umeadi upon his return from Canada.
The delegation, led by Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the Anambra State NUJ chairman, included union stakeholders, state executives, and veterans from various chapels of the state union. Notable attendees included Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna, the Anambra State NUJ matriarch, and Dr. Dennis Ekemezi, Director of Veteran Journalists.


High Chief Dr. Chinedu Umeadi (Agunechemba Abagana) was honored as the 2024 NUJ Anambra State Man of the Year for his significant contributions to humanity. Although he was unable to attend the award ceremony on November 7, 2024, due to professional commitments in Canada, he was celebrated alongside other distinguished personalities during the NUJ Anambra State Council 2024 Press Week.
Dr. Umeadi warmly received the NUJ members at his residence and expressed his joy at sharing another cordial moment with them. The event featured the breaking of kolanut by the host, the presentation of a special edition of the NUJ publication “The Watch Dog” to Dr. Umeadi, the presentation of gifts in honor of his title, and various speeches.
Dr. Stanley Onunkwo commended Dr. Odogwu’s efforts as the NUJ chairman and highlighted the reasons for Dr. Umeadi’s selection as the 2024 Man of the Year. He noted that Dr. Umeadi’s impact on the people of Anambra State made him the most deserving candidate.
Dr. Odogwu emphasized that the NUJ awards are based on proper assessment and due diligence, not given out lightly. He thanked Dr. Umeadi for inviting the union upon his return from Canada and prayed for his continued success.

Professor Stella Okunna reiterated the rigorous selection process for the Man of the Year award, praising Dr. Umeadi’s philanthropic efforts and grassroots orientation.
In his speech, Dr. Umeadi acknowledged the value of the press and expressed his gratitude for being chosen as the Man of the Year. He promised to support the NUJ in any way he could and wished for continued cordial relations with the press.
