Nteje Community, Celebrates Annual Alo Nmuo Festival

Nteje Community in Oyi Local Government Area newly rolled out its drums at the Chinaemeze Palace of their traditional ruler, Igwe Rowland Odegbo to commemorate the 2021 annual Alo Nmuo Festival.

Correspondent Amaka Chibuzor-Okoye reports that Eke Nteje is popularly known for yam seedlings.

The Alo Mmụọ Festival climaxed when Igwe Odegbo in company of his cabinet chiefs dissected a tuber of yam into three pieces, representing the three quarters of Ezi, Ikenga and Ivite Nteje.

According to tradition, the dissected tuber was later shared among the oldest men in the three quarters.

Speaking  Igwe Odegbo thanked God for a bountiful harvest in the community and prayed their ancestors to continue to bless the land and channel the mind of their youths into meaningful endeavours.

Igwe Odegbo, who is also the Co-Board Chairman, Anambra Broadcasting Service, sued for peace, progress and development of Nteje Community and its neighbouring communities.

He pointed out that Governor Willie Obiano’s administration meant well for Ndi Anambra expressing believe that he will finish strong and hand over to Professor Charles Soludo, who will consolidate and continue where Governor Obiano will stop.

Felicitating with Ndi Nteje, Senator that represented Anambra Central At the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh described new yam festival as a moment to thank the ancestors for providing for them and called on Ndi Nteje to rally round their traditional ruler and embrace peace and oneness.

For the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah, such a festival is an opportunity for Ndi Igbo to come together, promote their culture, tradition and custom as well share happiness with one another praying God for the long reign of Igwe Odegbo.

For the state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi it is a way of community policing and inculcating safety measures in their lives.

In their separate speeches, the President General, Asaba Development Union Worldwide, Professor Epiphany Azinge and the General Overseer, Living Olive Evangelical Outreach Ministry, Pastor Chijindu Samuel, celebrating a bumper harvest is not fetish but a way of thanking God for giving them the grace to harvest.

Some traditional rulers including the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu, his Mkpunando Aguleri and Umueri counterparts Igwe Johnson Onyeaka and Bennet Emeka respectively as well as  some members of the state Executive Council were also in attendance.
