NON-INDIGENES CASE; LET JUSTICE TAKE PLACE

Elder, High Chief Sam AMAKU

I am just a Crusader,a concerned Citizen in this long outstanding and vexatious NON INDIGENES matter.
I am concerned because of the inhuman and most unGodly humiliation these people ,fellow Ndigbo otherwise nick- named NON INDIGENES, have been subjected to since over 25 years now.

I will not stop pestering the Leaders of the real Enugu Indigines until JUSTICE is done to those our unfortunate brothers and Sisters who were dramatically relieved of their jobs since 1997 without any financial settlements.

Altogether,4,000 of them who were in the Public Service of the then Enugu Public Service under the defunct Eastern Region were affected. These fellow Ibos, suddenly were nick- named NON INDIGENES of Enugu even after they had used their Youthful years to serve and contributed towards the develo pment of what is today known as ENUGU State.

It is shocking and most unGodly that for over 25 years these people were laid off, the issue of settlement of their due Constitutional financial entitlements is still not attended to, government after government. Yet,on Sundays, people go to Church and take Holy Communion, forgetting that God said that a labourer should be worthy of his pay.

Kudos to Gov. Ugwuanyi who earlier in his Administration, set up a Committee to handle the NON INDIGENES issue. But, what is the outcome of the work of that Committee since the affected workers have not yet received a Kobo of their entitled Gratuities and Pensions?

  1. Why has the Governor not made any commiting Statement on this matter since?
  2. Would he be handing over this long outstanding human issue to another Government?
  3. Would those 4,000 former workers have spent their Youthful years working for Enugu State just in VAIN? Morally,is it FAIR ,even when some of them were close to their r retirement ages?
  4. Now,for record purposes, now that some fellow Ibos resident imn Enugu are brazenly referred to as NON INDIGENES of Enugu State, would their VOTES also count, come this 2023 elections especially for Enugu Indigenes standing for elective positions?
  5. I listen to their Radio programs daily as they marshall out their Manifestos. But none of them, Mr Edeoga of the Labour Party ,Barrister Ogbe and other Governorship Aspirants in the State are yet to speak on this NON INDIGENES issue. What is their stand on this?
  6. Let the Public know why these fellow Ibos cannot be paid their financial entitlements since more than 25 years now? Is what is good to the goose not also good for the gender? Who will labour and others eat or enjoy?
  7. Why are the Trade Unions also keeping quiet over this matter? When those affected workers were in Service, they belonged to the Civil Service Trade Unions and paid their dues accordingly. Why have the Workers Union abandoned their ex members at a crucial time like this?
  8. Why are people of conscience, the Clergy inclusive in Enugu State not speaking out? Is it FSIR for people to serve for upwards of 30 years or more to go home empty handed?10. Where then is the JUSTICE in the land,,? We should all remember that there is God in Heaven and that everyone of us shall surely give an account of his or her services here on Earth. So do unto others as you would them and God do unto you. Denying these unfortunate former workers ( fellow Ndi Igbo for that matter) their due Constitutional financial RIGHTS because they are NOT INDIGINES of Enugu State, yet they worked here and for Enugu State, sounds absurd and most unGodly. For sure, the blood of those of them who have died out of hunger, frustration and hardship MUST speak. Let JUSTICE be done.
