There was a show of unity in Nnewi on Sunday as leaders from Umudim, Otolo, Uruagu and Nnewichi rallied behind the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.

The people described Anazodo’s first two years in office as Mayor of the council area as the most impactful in recent years.

They gave the pass mark at the August Nzuko-Ora Nnewi General Meeting held at the Nnewi Youth League Hall, Roundabout. The gathering brought together the President Generalss of the four quarters, representatives of the 51 village wards, and other leaders of the Nnewi kingdom.

The meeting affirmed that Anazodo should serve out his full four-year term in line with established practice in Nnewi, accusing certain interests of trying to destabilize the council through sponsored media attacks.

According to them, the community would no longer condone the hijack of its institutions by individuals operating through proxies.

“Nnewi has had enough of godfatherism. The time when a few people cornered the common wealth of Nnewi through cronies is over,” one of the speakers declared.

The PGs including Hon. Tony Muodielo (Otolo), Chief Innocent Okoli (Uruagu), Chief Uzochukwu Anyadiegwu (Umudim) and Engr. Emma Chukwueloka (Nnewichi) described critics of the chairman as opportunists who only surfaced for political gain. They urged residents to ignore online campaigns targeted at the council and at respected sons of Nnewi.

In their assessment, the leaders said the current council leadership had delivered visible results and deserved to be allowed to focus. One of them added that Anazodo represented a new direction for Nnewi and was working for the people, not for private pockets.

He said resources belonging to Nnewi North would be channeled strictly into projects that benefit residents and that his administration would continue to align with the Anambra State Government on welfare and infrastructure. He also promised that the 2026 Afia Olu Festival would be staged on a scale never witnessed before.

The meeting also lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the attention being given to Nnewi, citing ongoing urban renewal works following the governor’s recent inspection tour of the town.
