NMA offers medicare, food to Anambra flood victims

The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) said at least 600 flood victims benefitted from its free medical services.


The state Chairman, Dr Jane Ezeonu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday.
Ezeonnu said that the medicare was conducted by a team of 13 medical doctors at an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.


She expressed worry that High Blood Pressure and anxiety issues were prevalent in the camp.
She said that those who needed more medical attention were given referral for better treatment.
“As part of our activities towards saving lives in this period of disaster, we visited the IDPs camp in Umuleri to give free medical services.
“Our aim is to ensure that they don’t lack care, especially basic medical care while in camp,” she said.
Ezeonu further said that some food items were also delivered to the victims to alleviate their sufferings.

She called for a sustainable measure to address the problem of flooding and reduce the interruptions on people’s communal existence in the affected area. (NAN)
