Nigeria’s First Lady’s Visit : Anambra Women Affairs Commissioner, Onyekesi Hails Empowerment Initiatives for Women

Following Thursday’s visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Anambra State, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, has commended the empowerment initiatives unveiled during the visit, describing them as strategic interventions capable of improving livelihoods and strengthening vulnerable families.

Senator Tinubu was in the state to launch the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Zone and support empowerment initiatives targeted at improving the welfare and economic wellbeing of citizens.

Reacting to the development, Mrs. Onyekesi said the empowerment component of the initiative was particularly significant because it provides women with productive assets that can serve as a foundation for income generation and sustainable livelihoods.

She noted that economically empowered women are better positioned to provide for their families, improve household incomes and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The Commissioner commended Senator Tinubu for bringing the interventions to Anambra, describing the initiatives as a welcome demonstration of the impact that collaboration between the Federal and State Governments can have in addressing the needs of citizens.

Mrs. Onyekesi also appreciated the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for complementing national initiatives at the sub-national level and supporting programmes aimed at improving the welfare and economic wellbeing of Ndi Anambra.

She urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the equipment and other forms of support provided, stressing that the intervention should not be viewed merely as government assistance but as an opportunity to establish or strengthen businesses, create income and improve the living conditions of their families.

According to her, the development will further strengthen collaboration between the Federal and Anambra State Governments in advancing programmes targeted at women, children, families and other vulnerable citizens.
