As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence anniversary tomorrow, a public affairs analyst and a stakeholder in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, Mr Emmanuel Atuegbu-Dangana, has expressed optimism that the country will overcome its present challenges and emerge stronger, urging Nigerians to remain patient and contribute collectively to building the Nigeria they desire.

Mr Atuegbu-Dangana, who made the call while reflecting on the nation’s sixty-six years of independence, said the responsibility of transforming the country should not be left to government alone, and urged Nigerians to work with leaders at all levels, as according to him unity, patriotism, hard work and collective responsibility remain necessary to bring the desired Nigeria to life.

He also appealed to political and public office holders to make deliberate efforts to personally identify with the sufferings and hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, noting that leaders should not depend entirely on reports from their aides and other intermediaries, as such messengers may sometimes fail to adequately communicate the realities confronting the people, thereby making it difficult for leaders to appreciate the severity of the challenges.

Mr Atuegbu-Dangana called for greater empathy, responsive leadership and sustained commitment to the wellbeing of the people, for a better and more prosperous country.
