1. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has assured Nigerians of high security and level playing ground ahead of today’s re-run elections in 28 Federal and State Constituencies across the country. He also ordered a comprehensive security arrangement for all INEC offices and facilities in the affected eleven (11) States across the country. IGP Adamu, however, enjoins politicians and candidates standing in for the elections as well as the electorates, to ensure strict conformity to the rule of law. This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, on Friday in Abuja.

2. Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has taken a swipe at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), following its reaction to the murder of Reverend Lawan Andimi by Boko Haram where it blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for not doing enough. Adesina in a post on his Facebook page on Friday accused the Christian leaders of labelling Buhari an “anti-christian”, also accusing CAN of not being honest and doing the direct opposite of what God (the master) teaches.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja assured that though it might take a bit longer than expected, the nation will surely put the issues associated with the troubles in the Northeast in order and move ahead. Speaking while receiving Janez Lenarcic, the European Union (EU) Commissioner for Crisis Management in State House, President Buhari said, if the country could fight a 30-month civil war and be reorganized, it will be wrong to think that Nigeria cannot win the war against insurgency.

4. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) on Friday lamented the latest ranking of Nigeria in the corruption index by Transparency International (TI). Nigeria was ranked 146 out of 180 Countries on the 2019 Corruption Perception Index, dropping two places in one year. The Ohanaeze Youth Council in a statement signed by its president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to jail persons whose actions have given Nigeria a bad image, including Governors, Ministers, Senators and other highly placed individuals considered untouchable.

5. The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Bala Ciroma, has condemned the killing of one of the officers in his command in Ushafa, Abuja. DSP Anjuguri Manzah, Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement Friday night said the action was carried out by a mob. Some unknown persons while trying to obstruct the police from arresting one Moses Peter, aka Dogo, a suspect wanted for Culpable Homicide, attacked and killed ASP Eric Isaiah at the palace of Chief of Ushafa in Bwari Area Council on 23rd January, at about 9pm. While describing the act as barbaric and unpatriotic, the Commissioner of Police promised that the killers of the police officer must be arrested and brought to justice.

6. The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna on Friday explained why some sizable numbers of Cadets have been withdrawn from the Academy and others demoted. The Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Abubakar Abdullahi who confirmed the withdrawals in a statement said, some have been found wanting in discipline and general conduct. Major Abdullahi who was silent on the number of Cadets involved, said that the relegation and withdrawal of the Cadets followed the conduct of the Academy’s periodic dossier on all cadets aimed to preserve discipline and improve general administration.

7. Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are reaching consensus regarding the best strategy for tackling insecurity in their respective states. Many of the Governors are also settling for “Community Policing”, according to Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State. Lalong disclosed this, Friday, in Abuja during the first quarterly meeting of the Governance Programme Steering Committee of the Progressive Governors’ Forum PGF.

8. Less than 12 hours to the rerun elections in Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has announced its decision to withdraw from the race. It alleged a perceived bias of the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in the state. In a press conference on Friday evening at the party’s secretariat in Uyo, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Ini Okopido said both Senator Godswill Akpabio whose candidacy has been replaced with Ekperikpe Ekpo for the Senatorial District election and Nse Ntuen for Essien Udim State Constituency will not participate in the elections.

9. Five young men have reportedly gone insane after drinking mixed herbs with gin fondly called ‘Kaikai’ at Omuakwuru community in Igboo-Etche, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. The victims, who are young men from the community, committed the act of drugging themselves when they went for the burial of one of their elders, Blessing Wokowa. Report says the boys started misbehaving immediately after the intake of the root mixed with local dry gin which was prepared by one of the young men. The Police in Igbo-Etche said they have launched a manhunt for the major culprit.

10. Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, says Southwest governors were ready to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to explain the whole concept of the security outfit, Amotekun, and why it is urgently needed. Governor Akerelodu told journalists in Abuja on Friday morning that the meeting with Buhari would have taken place already if not for his trip to the United Kingdom last week.
