NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS: NSCDC PLEDGES SUPPORT TO NIS IN TACKLING ILLEGAL MIGRATION AND TRAFFICKING OF PERSONS

The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) Anambra State Command , Mr. Olatunde A.Maku has promised to support the Nigerian Immigration Service Anambra State Command to stem the tide of illegal migration and human trafficking.

He made this promise on Wednesday January 17, 2024 when he received in audience the new Comptroller of Immigration Service Anambra State Command, Dr. G.O Nwoke at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters Awka.

Comdt. Maku pledged his continued support to the Nigerian Immigration Service in the fight against irregular migration and other forms of trans border crimes . The Anambra NSCDC boss acknowledged the synergy and cooperation between the NSCDC and the Nigerian Immigration Service and sued for more of such collaborations to fight criminality to the barest minimum.

Earlier, the Comptroller of Immigration Service( CIS) Dr. G.O Nwoke appreciated the NSCDC State Commandant for the warm reception accorded her adding that the visit was in line with her desire to align with existing protocols, familiarize and strengthen the inter – agency synergy between the two agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

Acknowledging the need for a strong working relationship between the two agencies of government, the traveller further posited that the security challenges within the county call for the closing of ranks among all the security agencies as no agency can do it alone. inter-agency

” When we talk of movement of people, Immigration Service is the first point of contact that a traveler can meet in any country of the world. We have been trained to know foreigners as soon as we see them.

“With my coming into Anambra by the Special grace of God, I believe that we are going to work as a team, there is no point for two sisters to fight, we are a family.

” We should work to fish out all these immigrants coming in from other countries to cause insecurity in our country and repatriate them to their various countries” she said.

Dr. Nwoke noted that such collaboration was necessary as it would bring about improved security and safety in the state.

The highlights of the visit was exchange of souvenirs, signing of courtesy visit register and group photograph.
