NDE trains 390 persons in Ebonyi on vocational skills

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE)  on Friday commenced the training of  over 390 Ebonyi youths and women on two  vocation skills.

The Director-General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Fikpo, said this at the inauguration and orientation ceremony for participants in the programme in Abakaliki.

He said the two beneficiaries would be trained under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS) and Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (A-NOAS).

According to him, A-NOAS is a vocational skills training for unemployed youths and women in the state.

Fikpo, represented by Mr Don Anaba, Ebonyi Coordinator of NDE, said the 390 beneficiaries were expected to contribution to wealth and employment creation in the state.

The director-general said that the 360 beneficiaries for the programme were drawn from the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

He also said 260 beneficiaries would be trained in B-NOAS, while 130 would be trained in A-NOAS respectively.

“The training scheme will be conducted in over 15 vocational skills such as computer operation, GSM repairs, fashion design and hair dressing.

“Others are generator maintenance, barbing, electrical installation, vulcanising, catering amongst others.

“The training scheme, which is for a period of three months at three NDE skills acquisition centres in the state and informal master craftsmen and women.

“I urge you, the trainees to take the training seriously in order to make best of the opportunity and become an employers of labour’’, he said.

Mr Obioha Ananaba, Head of Department, Vocational Scheme Department, NDE, said that there was need for job creation and capacity building for the nation’s economy to grow.

“I welcome all the participants for this training and it is a privilege that you were selected among thousands of persons that applied”, Ananaba said.

Nkechinyere Nwali, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the Federal Government and NDE for the scheme and promised that the participants would take  the advantage of the programmes to become better citizens. (NAN)
