Anambra Police Name Women Affairs Commissioner POCACOV Senior Ambassador to Fight Cultism, Youth Vices

The Anambra State Chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has conferred the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, with the title of “Very Senior Ambassador” and strategic partner.
The conferment, which took place in Awka, the state capital, was in recognition of the Ministry’s contributions to safeguarding young people and promoting family values across the state.
According to the Command, the honour is part of its continued drive to build stronger alliances with key stakeholders in the fight against cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other vices threatening the wellbeing of teenagers and youths.
Speaking during the visit, the POCACOV delegation led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Francisca Egbunike, commended the Ministry’s sustained efforts in family and community development.
She highlighted the Ministry’s work in advocacy, counselling, youth empowerment, protection of vulnerable persons, and early intervention initiatives designed to shield young people from criminal influences and harmful behaviour.
ASP Egbunike noted that partnering with the Ministry would strengthen prevention strategies in homes, schools and communities, as women and mothers remain critical to early detection and guidance of children.
Responding, Commissioner Onyekesi expressed appreciation for the honour and pledged the Ministry’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force through POCACOV.
She restated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to programmes aimed at curbing cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other vices affecting young persons in the state.
“The safety and moral development of Anambra’s youths remain central to the Ministry’s mandate,” Mrs. Onyekesi said.
“We will continue to work with security agencies, traditional institutions, and faith-based organizations to ensure our children grow in safe and responsible environments,” she added.
The Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, in partnership with POCACOV, called on parents, traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, schools, youth organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to collaborate with security agencies.
The goal, according to the Ministry, is to foster a safer and more responsible society for the coming generation in Anambra State.
