National Assembly Leadership: Enugu State glows with Senator Osita Ngwu.

Enugu state will still play prominent role in the hierachy of the leadership of the National Assembly(Upper Chamber),as Senator Osita Ngwu(PDP), representing Enugu West senatorial district,on Tuesday November 21.emerged as the Minority Whip of the 10th senate.

The emergence of Senator Ngwu as Senate Minority whip arose from the sack of Senator Darlington Nwokocha representing Abia Central by the court of Appeal. Senator Nwokocha who was elected on the platform nf Labour Party, held the vintage position of Senate Minorit Whip before his sack.

The Senate President,Senator Godswill Akpabio, during the senate plennary session held on Tuesday,November 21,notified the house of the development in the leadership of the senate and since nature abbhors vacuum, Hon.Osita Ngwu(PDP),representing Enugu West senatorial district have to come on board as the new Minority Whip of the 10th senate.Earlier on,Senator Akpabio announced Senator Abba Morro(PDP,Benue) as the new Senate Minority Leader to replace Senator Simon Mwadiwon(PDP,Plateau),also sacked by the Court of Appeal.

The current development or dynamics in the political circle of the National Assembly has shot up Enugu state once again in the leadership of the National Assembly,this time around from the angle of opposition party.

The SUMMIT news check evealed Enugu state within the fourth democratic dispensation which started in 1999 has produced the President of the senate in the person of distinguished Senator Ken Nnamani(2023) on the platform of PDP which was the ruling party,as at then.

Enugu state equally produced the deputy president of the senate for four consecutive times,in the person of Senator Ike Ekweremadu,who was consistently re elected by his constituents for a fifth term on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Coincidentaly,Senator Osita Ngwu is taking after Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Enugu West senatorial district in the red chambers of the National Assembly. Enugu West senatorial district consists of five local government areas,namely Aninri, Awgu,Ezeagu, Oji Rrver and Udi local government areas of Enugu state. The zone has a devide of two federal constituencies known as Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency also referred as ‘Greater Awgu’ and Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency also referred as ‘Agbaja clan’.

The Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency aftermath of the Court of Appeal judgement is being represented by Hon.Cyracus Obeha.who emerged on the platform of Labour party(LP). While Hon(Dr) Anayo Onwuegbu of PDP is reaffirmed by the Court of Appeal as the federal lawmaker,representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency.

By implication, the emergence of Senator Osita Ngwu as Enugu West district senator in the 10th Natimal assembly,confers on him the current political leader of Enugu West senatorial district. Irrespective of political affiliations, he reitterates his interest to work with all stakeholders and others occupying elective or appointive positions in the interest of Enugu West district, Enugu state and Nigeria,generally.

Political analysts view the emergence of Senator Osita Ngwu as Senate Minority Whip of the 10th National Assembly as a good development to Enugu state even as a PDP state which is currently an opposition party at the National level.

His emergence is also eliciting much among his constituents( Enugu West senatorial districts),who sees it as another feather for him to consolidate,facilitate socio economic and infrastructural development zone and human empowerment of the grass roots.

Hon Chinedu Onyeagba, Oji River local government chairman described Senator Ngwu as political Iroko of Enugu West senatorial district and that his appointment as Senate Minority Whip is an indication of his immense contribution in the senate.

Hon Onyeagba in his congratulatory message to Senator Ngwu stated,
“The light cannot be hidden for it’s illumination will surely announce it’s presence,at any place it is placed.Senator Osita Ngwu is simply a political light whose presence is already felt al over Nigeria”.
