Mbah launches fashion acquisition centre to empower Enugu youths

Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Wednesday inaugurated fashion skills acquisition centre for the training of unemployed youths in fashion and designing.

Inaugurating the centre, Mbah said the provision of the centre was in pursuant to his administration’s commitment to eradicating poverty through skill acquisition, enhanced employability and self-sufficiency.

The governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, emphasised the potency of skill acquisition as a tool for survival when things were tough.

He added that the training would serve as a means of wealth creation under normal circumstances.

He advised the first batch of trainees on the need to take the programme seriously for their benefits and for the growth of Enugu economy.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Mr Chika Ugwuoke, expressed joy over the governor’s support towards establishment of the centre.

He reminded the trainees that the impact of the centre went beyond sewing and fabrics but for the generational upliftment and communal prosperity of the state.

Ugwoke described the training as a “beacon of hope” for the actualisation of the vision of Mbah.

The Commissioner explained that the centre had training hall and three offices fully equipped with sophisticated sewing machines, embroidery machines and other training materials.

He urged MDAs, individuals and the public to patronise the centre for high quality products at affordable prices, adding that their patronage would ensure the sustainability of the centre for generations to come.

In a remark, Lloyd Ekweremadu, the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, called on participants to put in their efforts towards carving a niche for themselves to promote their chances of success in a competitive market.
