Man docked for intimidating his neighbour

A 38-year-old man, Awolere Ifegbemi, was on Monday docked in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly criminally threatening his neighbour.

The police charged Ifegbemi, who resides in Angwan baba ojo Tunga-maje, Gwagwalada with criminal intimidation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abudulahi Tanko,  told the court that the complainant, Dauda Kure of Tunga-maje Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada police station on Dec.23, 2021.

Tanko said that the defendant unprovoked on  Dec. 14, 2021, challenged the complainant to a fight.

The prosecution said that when the complainant refused, the defendant got angry and threatened to deal with him.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 397 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel, Mr O.C Nwator, in his oral bail application prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

Nwator cited sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 to back up his claims for bail.

The Judge, Sani Umar admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum who must reside within the FCT, Abuja.

Umar said that the address of the surety must be verified by the court and must present valid means of identification.

He said that the surety must provide two recent passport photographs and in default should be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Service in Suleja.

He adjourned the matter until March 14 for a hearing. (NAN)
