Man arraigned for alleged attempt to rob PoS operator

The Police on Monday in Lagos arraigned one Bello Idris, who  allegedly attempted to rob a Point of Sale (PoS) operator at gunpoint. The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempted armed robbery and illegal possession of firearm. He appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court but pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere,  said that the defendant committed the crimes along with another person at large. The prosecutor said that the defendant committed the offences  on Aug. 19,  behind ABC Transport Company at Jibowu, Lagos State.

She said that Idris was in possession of a locally-made single-barrel short gun and two live cartridges, adding that he attempted to rob a PoS operator, Mr Oluwakemi Kumuyi. According to her, the alleged  offences contravene Sections 99 and 298(1)(2)(a)(b)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N450,000 and two sureties, who must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of three years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 3 for mention.
