Lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly have arrived at the State High Court in Ikeja for the hearing of a case filed by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa challenging his removal from office.

Obasa was ousted by 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. He is contesting his removal in court.

Among the respondents in the suit are the lawmakers and Princess Mojisola Meranda, who was elected as speaker after Obasa’s removal but later stepped down in deference to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.

During the initial hearing on February 20, 2025, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN) represented Obasa, while Femi Falana (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), and other senior lawyers appeared for 34 lawmakers. Olu Daramola (SAN) and Dada Awosika (SAN) represented additional lawmakers seeking to join the case, while Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) led the legal team for Meranda.
