Kazeem Abegunrin: CHRSJ wants death penalty for Killer Baale Olawunmi in Ogun State

…..Alleges Police of playing hanky-panky to set Olawunmi free in Court

….As CHRSJ plans peaceful mass protest after 21-day ultimatum expiration

A human rights organization, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has called for death penalty for one Baale Adebowale Olawunmi who killed one Kazeem Abegunrin popularly known as Oloriodo of Oke-Erinja Town via Owode,Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State over land matter.

Kazeem Abegunrin, before his untimely death from the hand of Baale Adebowale Olawunmi and his co-travelers,was a Leader of the Youths in the Community that were not allowed the Baale and his cohorts to sell the community land because of future development of the town.

The rights group, specifically,alleged Policemen attached to Owode-Idiroko Divisional Police Station and some Officers attached to the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF), particularly,Homicide section,Eleweran,Abeokuta in the State Capital, were planning to ensure that the Court set the alleged Killer (Baale Adebowale Olawunmi) free.

It further alleged that it was because of these hatchet plan that the Police failed to carry out autopsy and Corona investigation on the remote cause of Kazeem Abegunrin’s pathetic death which it would have formed their part of evidence to convince the trial Magistrate in the matter beyond reasonable doubt

Although,Baale Adebowale Olawunmi has been arrested since February,2021 when the incident occurred and the matter has been charged to Magistrate Court by the Police Prosecutor, Ibrahim Azeez (+23438089323) with a suit N0:MAC/32c/2021,without any concrete evidence to convince the Magisterial Court.

It added that the Police in the Divisional Station also refused to arrest other criminal suspects including; Ezekiel Olubukola Akande who joined the Baale Adebowale Olawunmi to perpetrate the dastard act because Olawunmi had promised him (Ezekiel) that he would replace Kazeem Abegunrin if they succeeded in killing late Kazeem and this gave effrontery to Ezekiel on his Facebook page to announce that he(Ezekiel) would soon become Leader of the Youth in the community (Oke-Erinja), adding that Ezekiel was bragging between February 17th to March 4th,2020 on his Facebook page that he would soon be crown as Leader of the Youths in the community.

But according to the two count Court charge; That you Adebowale Olawunmi “m” a.k.a. Baale Oke-Erinja and others at large between 28th day of February,2021 and 1st of March,2021 at Oke-Erinja in the Ado-Odo Magistrate district did commit felony with murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 324 of the Criminal code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria,2006.

The second count charge read, That you Adebowale Olawunmi”m” a.ka.Baale Oke-Erinja and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully kill one Kazeem Abegunrin”M” aged 45 years by pouring substance suspected to be Acid on his head and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal code Law of Ogun State, Nigeria,2006. The notorious kidnapper and Killer, Baale Adebowale Olawunmi has been remanded in Ilaro Correctional Centre(Prison) and his case has been adjourned to 25th day of May 2021 for mentioning.

Speaking on the development on Sunday,the Executive Chairman of the Centre, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman described the action of Baale Adebowale Olawunmi and his co-travelers as callous, evil and crime against God and humanity, which they should face the capital punishment, adding that the Police handling the case have been compromised to give Baale Adebowale Olawunmi a soft landing of exoneration by the Court.

He added that instead of Police to conduct diligent investigation to authenticate the veracity of empirical report in any Court of competent jurisdiction, they arrested and detained the younger brother (Mr. Isikilu Abegunrin) of the deceased(Kazeem Abegunrin), claiming that he would know those angry youths that burnt down the house of Baale Adebowale Olawunmi for killing Kazeem Abegunrin, alleging that, according to his Counsel, Barrister Joseph Seun Oluwabamise(+2348069619236), the Police did not want
the Court to grant him (Isikilu Abegunrin) bail. Isiklu has also been remanded in Correctional centre and the case has been adjourned to 20th of April,2021.

The rights activist, recalled that, this was the same way late Engineer Paul Odewu was killed over family land by notorious Olaifa, the 3rd Kinihun,Onilashe of Ilashe through SARS officer, Inspector Wasiu Lawal.

Sulaiman, however, called the attention of the security agents,particularly, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Edward Awolowo Ajogun to beam searchlight on the ancient town of Ihunbo, Ipokia Local Government area of the State, as Mr. Samuel Akinola(Adele Oba Ihunbo-+2348033664120)), Mr. Joseph Olamide Adesiyan (+2348034829144),Mr. Titus Babajide (Oppressor-+2347041055555), Oladoyin Olatunji(+2348188298111), Bashiru Ogunjobi(Ajana Oro):-+2348035254024, Musiliu Ogundare:-+2348060798251, Akinola Samod(+2348060450586), Akinola Abel(+2348130675663), Alagbe Elijah(+2347044858283) and Mr. Fatai Isiaka, have employed the service of one Lukuman Asogbo(+2348132056465) and his Cohorts to terminate the life of Alfa Akeem Babatunde and other youths for blocking them from selling the forbidden forest of the ancient town of Ihunbo.

He called on the State Government and security agents in the State, not to take this another alarm being raised by the Centre (CHRSJ) on the plan to kill some youths in Ihunbo by the known land grabbers, smugglers and bunkers as mentioned above.

Sulaiman who doubles as Convener Save Lagos Group (SLG), declared that all machinery have been put in place to organize a mass peaceful protest in the State Capital, Abeokuta after the expiration of 21-day ultimatum given to the State Government, against the lackadaisical attitude, incompetence, dereliction of duty on the part of the security agents in the State,that lead to the incessant killings of innocent citizens of the State and the grave violation of the citizens fundamental human rights.
