Insecurity: Over 2,000 Southeast hunters receive training on security techniques

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), has trained over 2000 members of the Hunters Group of Nigeria (HGN) drawn from the five South- East states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi on security techniques.

The intensive week-long exercise in which participants were trained in areas of surveillance, intelligence gathering among others, took place at the (NSCDC) training college in Oji River Council area of Enugu state.

Speaking during the passing out parade (POP), on Tuesday, the Commandant – General of NSCDC, Amed Abubakar Audi, stressed that the fight against insecurity challenges in Nigeria requires the support of all and sundry.

Audi was represented by the Assistant Commandant- General, ACG, Raji Ibrahim, in charge of zone (K), comprising Enugu and Anambra Commands, with headquarters in Awka.

According to him, going by the intensive training the participants were subjected to during the exercise, “they have been properly equipped with security knowledge and technics that will enable them assist the law enforcement agencies in fishing out criminal elements in their hideouts in South- East geo political zone of the country”.

The NSCDC boss warned the HGN personnel to always avoid the temptation of taking laws into their hands or engaging in jungle justice when they apprehend Criminal suspects. He advised: “Whenever you nab a criminal suspect, the right thing to do is to hand him over to the relevant security agency for further actions, depending on the crime the person commits.

He stressed that they must also understand the rules of engagement, and must also not arrest innocent citizens or embark on vendetta while carrying out their duties 

 In his remark, Commandant General – of Hunters Group of Nigeria, Ambassador Osatimehim Joshua Wole, represented by the Deputy Commandant General, Mr. Emmanuel Umoh, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Interior for giving approval for use of the NSCDC facility for the training.

He noted that security remains everybody’s business and that “all hands must always be on deck to tackle the problem in the country and South East region”.

Wole stressed that the role of his organization which has presence in all the 36 of states of Nigeria, including the federal capital territory (FCT) Abuja in policing the nation, cannot be over-emphasised, especially in the face of the present insecurity difficulties bedeviling the nation.

The South East Zonal Acting Commandant of HGN, who is also in charge of Enugu state, Austin Nwangwu, assured that if given legal teeth, they would continue to join forces with security agencies in fishing out hoodlums in the country.
