INEC Guarantees On Anambra Guber Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ensured that its timetable for the Anambra State governorship election on Saturday, November sixth 2021 is inalienable.

A statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee,  Barrister Festus Okoye,  disclosed that eight out of the fourteen scheduled activities have already been fully and successfully implemented including the conduct of party primaries, nomination of candidates and commencement of campaign by political parties.

He said commission has approved the devolution of the Continuous Voter Registration to a total of three hundred and forty-eight wards in the state so as to ensure that fresh voters and those, who wish to transfer their registration to Anambra State or from one part of the state to another are given the opportunity to do so ahead of the election.

It stated that in the commission’s determination to make the CVR exercise easier and stress free, it is deploying six hundred and fifty-two trained staff at the ratio of two personnel to one ward as well as enough voter registration machines and adequate technical support for the duration of the exercise, which will hold between 9am and 3pm daily, including weekends.

The statement noted that in compliance with the provision of Section 9(5) of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, voter registration shall stop not later than sixty days before an election hence, the exercise will be suspended by September sixth twenty, twenty-one to enable the commission clean up the data, compile the register, make copies available to political parties, print the Permanent Voters Cards for collection by registered voters and prepare two copies of the register for each of the five thousand, seven hundred and twenty polling units ahead of the election.

According to the statement, the commission has identified five hundred and eighty pre-registrants, who booked for appointment to complete their registration after fifth September and has contacted them by e-mail and rescheduled them within the dates earmarked for the devolved exercise.
