IMSG Poised To Address Flood Disaster, Solicits FG Assistance – Anene Ahmed

Worried by the extent of environmental havoc wrecked by flood recently in most communities in Imo State and it’s environ, especially Oguta Ameshi as a result of flood occasioned by heavy down pour, Imo State Government has expressed her willingness to tackle the disaster headlong while soliciting assistance from the federal government.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Social Development and Humanitarian Services Princess Calista Anene-Ahmed disclosed this to news men shortly after she visited some flood ravaged communities in Oguta council area of the state.

Anene- Ahmed who’s a Princess of the oil rich Loca Government Area passionately advised flood prone communities in the state to always be vigilant and strictly adhere to early warning measures in other to avert further flood disaster.

She urged prone communities to always monitor the sea level in their areas and immediately report unusual rise of the sea to appropriate authorities so as to nip the disaster on bud.

The governor’s aide canvassed against building structures on the waterways and further cautioned those living close to the waterways to consider in earliest an alternative location as an abode

She said the need to be vigilant became important following a recent prediction that Imo state was among the states in Nigeria prone to heavy flooding in 2021.

It’s pertinent to recall that the Minister of Water Resources early last week released the 2021 annual flood outlook of the Nigerian hydrological services agency, listing no fewer than 27 states, including Imo as prone to heavy flooding in 2021.

Anene -Ahmed said her focus was to ensure that prone communities are not caught unaware by the prediction in Imo.

“In a bid to assist Gov. Hope Uzodinma’s administration to succeed, I have taken campaign against flooding and early warning measures to prone communities.

“It’s better to prevent disaster than to send relief materials to victims, so my office is poised to ensuring that our people does not fall victim of flood again”, she assured.

The Senior Special Assistant further advised disaster managers to remain alert incase of any emergency, while also commending Gov. Hope Uzodimma for showing interest in the welfare of Imo citizens.
