Imo Sports Commissioner charges Heartland FC to go for outright victory

Imo Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Emeka Okoronkwo, has charged players and management of Heartland Football Club, Owerri to bring home the Nigerian National League Trophy.

Okoronkwo made the charge in Owerri on Friday when he visited the team ahead of its  match day four fixture with Edel FC of Awka, in Anambra, slated for Saturday.

He appreciated the players for their doggedness, and  assured them of Gov. Hope Uzodimma’s support.

Okoronkwo further said that the state government had done its part by clearing all outstanding salaries and allowances of members of the team.

 He advised  them to remain focused and disciplined, to achieve the set goal and to reciprocate government’s gestures by returning Heartland FC to the top flight.

 “ Gov. Uzodimma is interested in the team because this team makes Imo people happy, that is why  the welfare of players is our top priority, hence the settlement of all outstanding payments.

” This season we have paid all match bonuses, even the one for Awka is here with us; as I speak, all outstanding salaries have been cleared.

“ Government has done her part. Imo people expect you to reciprocate this gesture. You must go for gold, “ he said.

Reacting, the team’s captain, Nnaemeka Anyanwu,  appreciated the Commissioner for taking out time to visit the team and  assured him that the team was totally dedicated towards achieving the set goals and returning to the top flight.

 Also, the team’s General Manager,  Mr Promise Nwachukwu, thanked the state government for its untiring efforts towards returning Heartland FC to the elite division.

 He also appreciated the Coach Christian Obi-led Technical Crew for their dedication and discipline and  urged Imo people to support the team to victory. (NAN)
