IGP Disu To Nigerian Youths: Don’t Fight Politicians’ Battles
As Nigeria heads towards the 2027 elections, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olatunji Disu has warned youths against becoming foot soldiers for political violence, saying they are the ones who bear the consequences long after politicians reconcile.
Disu gave the warning in Abuja at the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue to mark International Youth Day 2026.
The IGP said the police would protect peaceful political participation, but would deal with the recruitment of youths for violence, voter intimidation, weapon use and destruction of property.
He also warned that political thuggery is moving online, with misinformation, hate speech, cyberbullying and deepfakes capable of triggering real-world violence.
Disu urged youths to verify before sharing, think before clicking and use their influence to build rather than destroy.
“Your future is Nigeria’s future,” Disu said, charging young Nigerians to reject violence and choose responsible participation in democracy.
