Igbo Women across the globe yesterday ended its strategic meeting of reviewing the 2019 General elections and unanimously endorsed the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate former Governor of Anambra state Mr Peter Obi.
The President General Ohanaeze Igbo Women Organization Worldwide, Chief Hon. Mrs. Calista Nkiru Adimachukwu, Mmili Oma Ndigbo stated this in a press statement made available to Odogwublog.com this morning.
In a crucial meeting held on the 10th of February, 2019 at Nnewi, Anambra State, to deliberate on the campaign promises and manifestos of the various political parties and their candidates as regards to restructuring of Nigeria, Job creation, and the continued relevance of the Igbos in the Nigerian polity, among others, the Ohanaeze Igbo Women Organization Worldwide resolved to endorse the candidacy of Atiku/Obi.
The group’s decision to endorse Atiku/Obi’s candidacy was because of the past achievements of Atiku during the Obasanjo/Atiku’s administration between 1999/2007, and also Peter Obi’s outstanding achievements in business and governance. It is also widely known that Atiku’s stance on restructuring made him a better choice for the Igbos and Nigerians. It is also on record that Obasanjo/Atiku’s administration positioned Nigeria to achieve an upward economic growth through the introduction of GSM in Nigeria, and through its efforts in getting IMF to grant Nigeria a debt relief, and also attracted a lot of foreign direct investments.
On the other hand, Peter Obi during his 8 years in office as the governor of Anambra placed Anambra on the world map. Aside from his outstanding qualifications, he has proved to be a master economic strategist and an astute economist. In less than 8 years, Peter Obi turned Anambra State into the best economic viable state in Nigeria. During his tenure, Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best States in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance. Also during his tenure, the Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted State in Nigeria. In spite of the visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.
It is as a result of Atiku/Obi’s wealth of experience in business and in governance, in tandem with the facts earlier stated, that the Igbo women both in home and in diaspora under the auspices of the Ohanaeze Igbo Women Organization Worldwide signed a communique endorsing Atiku/Obi’s candidacy, and ensure that they are elected next month. If there’s any team capable of bringing peace, stability, and socio-political and economic restructuring of Nigeria, it is Atiku/Obi.
We also call on the European Union, United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS to monitor the elections to ensure that the votes of our electorates count in February.
