Ifedi Okwenna Inspects a World Class Innovation Centre Built by Skill-G

– Expresses Determination to Replicate innovation in Anambra.

PDP Aspirant in the Anambra State Governorship election, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna yesterday inspected a world class Innovation Centre built by Skill-G Group in Abuja. The Centre currently managed by Israeli scientists and innovation consultants consists of many sections including digital technology, robotics, basic coding, 3-D design, arts and craft, tailoring, capentary, furniture etc. The facility has also shared working facility to accommodate up to 100 people, dedicated business rooms etc.

Conducting Dr. Okwenna round the facility, Chairman of Skill-G group, Professor Greg Ibe, said that the facility which he runs with the support of Israeli Embassy in Nigeria currently recruits and trains young Nigerians who have innovative ideas, at no cost. “Our intention is to extract their innovative ideas to make them great entrepreneurs, experts and advisors” Professor Ibe stated. Accordingto him, “We do not charge them anything for their training instead we feed them and give them little financial support to transport themselves to and from this centre daily”. The facility according to Professor Ibe, draws experts from Israel, the United States and Nigeria, as trainers in the centre.

Addressing newsmen after the tour of the facility, Dr Okwenna expressed happiness on the positive impact of the Centre to youth development, entrepreneurship and to innovation in Nigeria. He said, his mission to the Centre, was part of his effort to continuously engage experts, open discussions with them on ways to replicate similar facilities in Anambra State, when he becomes Governor, without necessarily reinventing the wheel. He said that as Governor, he plans to give handsome training to over 200,000 youths on ICT and Digital Transformation and also establish 5000 startsups in 4years under the Startup Anambra programme. The programme Dr.Okwenna stated will help:

a. Engage our youths to create wealth, reduce poverty and to create self-sustaining job opportunities.
b. Ensure sustainable growth of Anambra ICT-enabled industries resulting to growth in our economy,
c. Building young entrepreneurs and wealth creators
d. Making our youths to be the enablers, innovators, achievers and leaders in pushing the state’s development and transition towards a world-class digital economy
e. Supporting our Governments e-government, e-business and e-learning policy make them to
f. Become leader in exporting software, applications and IT services.

Dr. Okwenna said, he had a frank discussion with both the management of the facility and with the visining Israeli and American trainers.
