Idemili South Presents Awards to Cleanlinest Community, Market

In line with the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision Clean, Green and liveable environment for Anambra State, Alor community has emerged as the neatest community while Afor Nnobi Market emerged as the neatest market in Idemili South Local Government Area(ISLGA).

The duo were announced winners by the Idemili South Environmental Management Project and also presented with Waste buckets amongst other compensations at the LGA Secretariat, Ojoto.

Presenting the Waste buckets to the recipients, the ISLGA Chairman, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Idemili) said that when she resumed office she set up an Environmental Management Project Committee and promised to reward handsomely any community or market that could be consistent in maintaining a very neat and clean environment in the LGA.

“As we have continued to make en routes into Environmental and Community Development Services, amongst other programs we feature under our Idemili South Environmental Management Project is to reward handsomely the various towns and markets who have subscribed to this idea of ensuring a clean and has remained consistent with it.

“This assessment and award will be done twice a year. From our research and consultations Alor community emerged as the neatest while Afor Nnobi emerged neatest market in the LGA for the first half of the year 2023. In other to encourage performance we compensate those who are compliant. I urge other communities to emulate them and possibly overtake them before next assessment,” said Mrs Obi.

The LGA Secretary, Mr. Evaristus Ofido recalled that when Governor Soludo resumed office there were mountainous heaps of refuse littered all over the state making everywhere a smelly atmosphere prone to spread of diseases. ” Our Solution Governor tackled it headlong with a mandate to the 21 LGAs to maintain clean and Green environment. This neatness award instituted by Iyom Idemili serves as a motivation to both the winners and other communities”.

In his remark, President General Alor, HighChief Emma Ojukwu ably represented by Arch. Joe Emefo and flanked by Alor Community Woman Leader, Lady Grace Uche Nwoye(JP) thanked the Council boss for the awards initiative describing the TC Chairman as a gift to the LGA. He further attributed the community success story to the tenacity and commitment of Alor youths who mapped out sanitation guidelines and were ever ready to enforce them.

Also, Afor Nnobi market Chairman, Chief Madu Ezeoke promised to uphold the neatness of the market because cleanliness is next to godliness. He thanked Iyom Idenili for the waste buckets praying God to elongate her stay in office for a better Idemili South.
