Idemili South Commences Second Phase on Distribution of Coconut, Palm Seedlings

The Idemili South Local Government Area (ISLGA) Chairman, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Idemili) has joined her counterparts in the 21 LGAs of Anambra State to commence the second phase of the distribution of improved coconut and palm seedlings urging umu Idemili to embrace agriculture as an alternative means of livelihood.

In line with the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo’s vision of a Greener and Sustainable environment, Hon Mrs. Obi has distributed the coconut seedlings received from the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture saying that it would boost productivity, create employment opportunities along the value chains and diversify the economy of the state.

According to her, Our Solution Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo is determined to revive agriculture through various empowerment schemes. Anambra state government is harnessing the full potential in the Agricultural sector. I advise umu Idemili South to maximize these opportunities.

” Governor Soludo believes that agriculture is the traditional economy. His government is championing economic diversification through agriculture and also promotes afforestation which will check environmental degradation ravaging some parts of the state.

“Governor Soludo (Chalienwamgbafo) knows the importance of agriculture and he believes that through agriculture, the poverty level of Ndi Anambra can be reduced. Anambra State Government also believes in the value chain and what will benefit society not only today but also in the future”, said Mrs Obi.

She further tasked the liason officers/councilors to endeavor to evenly distribute the Coconut seedlings so as to reach the intended community members saying that nobody should play down the governor’s efforts towards bringing democracy dividends down to the grassroots.

The ISLGA Secretary, Hon Evaristus Omega Ofido said that this was the second time the present administration embarked on the distribution of improved seedlings which will serve as cash crops in the next two or three years.

“Our visionary and Solution Governor has invested a lot in agriculture. In this second phase, about 5,900 coconut and 17,500 improved palm seedlings are being distributed in Idemili South, I just hope that our people will really cultivate them.

“Although, I see eagerness from the various kindreds that have already submitted names for collection of the seedlings. Here the people are not putting their capital, just open the group and put them and protect them,in few years neighbouring states will start coming to Anambra to buy palm produce and coconut thereby improving both individuals and state economy,” said Ofido

Moreover, the Councilor representing Oba Ward 1, Hon Uche Ubadi lauded His Excellency for his passion for agriculture urging people not to overlook Soludo’s vision to ensure that every compound in Anambra State has at least one improved palm tree and one improved coconut tree which one can start harvesting for food or for sale in the shortest possible time.

The ISLGA Secretary, Hon Evaristus Ofido and other councilors assured that the improved coconut seedlings will be distributed as directed eulogizing Governor Soludo and TC Chairman, Hon Mrs Obi for promptly ensuring that whatever belongs to ISLGA gets to the people.
