Ejiofor Demands Justice for Family of Six Brutally Murdered in Oyo State

… Urges FG to Investigate Merchants of Ethnic Hatred

By Chukwudi Ebele

Human Rights Lawyer and Social Critic Sir Ifeanyichukwu Ejiofor Esq has demanded justice for the Igbo family of six brutally murdered at Ibadan, Oyo State.

In his article titled ‘IGBO LIVES UNDER THREAT: THE ALARMING RISE OF ETHNIC HATRED, BLOODSHED AND THE MURDER OF AN ENTIRE IGBO FAMILY IN OYO STATE

JUSTICE FOR THE FAMILY OF SIX BRUTALLY MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD!” Ejiofor warned the Federal Government and the relevant security agencies: monitor, investigate and decisively address the merchants of ethnic hatred before their poisonous rhetoric claims more innocent lives.

According to Ejiofor, In my recent interventions, I have consistently sounded the alarm over the frightening prospect of the 2027 general elections degenerating into violence, bloodshed and unrestrained hate speech if these dangerous tendencies are not urgently monitored and nipped in the bud. Sadly, some have chosen to dismiss these warnings, pretending that there is no cause for alarm.

Never in recent history has Nigeria appeared so dangerously fractured along political lines, with Igbos increasingly becoming targets of hostility, particularly in parts of the South-West. What is most disturbing is the deliberate attempt to cloak grievous acts of hostility against Igbos in political rhetoric, thereby providing perpetrators with a convenient shield against accountability.

“A few weeks ago, I read an article attributed to a distinguished Yoruba woman questioning the origins of the growing animosity between Igbos and Yorubas. While the flourishing history of inter-ethnic marriages between both peoples speaks eloquently of their capacity for love and peaceful coexistence, a troubling question remains: why are certain political actors of Yoruba extraction seemingly determined to portray the average Igbo person as a political rival and enemy? The apparent success of this divisive narrative is deeply troubling.

Only days ago, individuals reportedly gathered on Facebook to call for the killing of Igbos living in the South-West. Now comes the horrifying report that an entire Igbo family of six of Ephraim Chukwu, his wife, and their four children in September 2026, was murdered in Ibadan ,Oyo State. Yet, this tragedy may attract less attention than a frivolous social-media spectacle. Must innocent human lives become insignificant simply because their deaths do not trend?

This is not a moment for silence, indifference or political expediency. The reported killing of six members of one family is an unspeakable tragedy; the possibility that ethnic incitement may be contributing to such violence makes it even more chilling. I am profoundly disturbed not merely by the reported atrocity, but by the vulnerability of ordinary people who may be manipulated into becoming instruments of hatred against their fellow citizens.

In a saner clime, public officials and political appointees whose conduct credibly raises concerns about ethnic incitement would face serious scrutiny. When individuals accused of fuelling ethnic hostility are rewarded with positions of influence rather than held accountable, what message does that send to those contemplating similar conduct? How can we expect ethnic baiting and hate speech to end when accountability appears uncertain?

As we approach the 2027 electioneering season, I once again issue this solemn warning to the Federal Government and the relevant security agencies: monitor, investigate and decisively address the merchants of ethnic hatred before their poisonous rhetoric claims more innocent lives. Reports of ethnic incitement and hostility must not be ignored, particularly where they threaten the safety of vulnerable communities.

The prevailing atmosphere, coupled with what appears to be an inadequate response to these troubling developments, gives legitimate cause for apprehension. Unless urgent and impartial preventive measures are taken, I fear that Igbos living in parts of the South-West may face heightened vulnerability as political campaigns gather momentum.

Nigeria must not descend into a theatre of ethnic vengeance where a citizen’s ancestry becomes a death sentence. No political ambition is worth a single innocent life; no ethnic grievance justifies murder; and no government should wait for another family to be wiped out before acting.

SIX INNOCENT LIVES HAVE REPORTEDLY BEEN CUT SHORT. SIX HUMAN BEINGS. ONE FAMILY. SIX IRREPLACEABLE LOSSES.

Their blood must not disappear beneath the weight of political indifference. Their deaths demand a thorough investigation, the prosecution of anyone found responsible, and justice for the bereaved. Above all, we must reclaim our common humanity before hatred destroys what remains of our national brotherhood.

JUSTICE FOR THE MURDERED IGBO FAMILY OF SIX IN OYO STATE!

NO TO ETHNIC HATRED. NO TO HATE SPEECH. NO TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE. NO TO IMPUNITY”, Ejiofor stated.
