Idemili South Commences Distribution of Improved Palm Seedlings, lauds Soludo

The Transition Chairman Idemili south Local Government Area (ISLGA), Mrs Amaka Obi (Iyom Idemili) in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture has flagged off the distribution of Improved palm seedlings to wards in ISLGA.

Distributing the seedlings at the Council Secretariat, Ojoto Mrs Obi said that Palm seedlings were of a special breed which could be harvested quickly saying that they have high benefits.

“It has proceeds such as palm oil, broom, soap, cream, twine, stake, fodder among other benefits and would be used to control flooding in the area,”said Mrs Obi.

The Transition Chairman then urged the Councillors, Community Presidents General, stakeholders, Ward chairmen present to ensure that it gets to all house hold in the LGA to enable them enjoy the dividends of the state.

The Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Mr Obisike Okeke said that ISLGA received 3800 Improved Palm Seedlings saying that the 12 wards in ISLGA will get 3800 palm Seedlings each for distribution and cultivation.

Moreso, Supervisory Councillor works, Mr. Nnaemeka Orji flanked by the ISLGA Secretary, Mr. Everistus Ofido urged Ndi Anambra not to take it for granted that the seedlings were distributed free saying it cost the State Government hugely to invest in agriculture.

“This Improved Palm Seedlings is different from our local palm trees. Infact, you can only equate one of this particular species of Improved Palm Seedlings to six of our local palm trees.

“You can start harvesting it standing on the ground after three years of cultivation. It can produce as much as 13 palm fruits at once and you can harvest up to twice or thrice a year,”said Orji.

In her remarks, Councillor representing Nnokwa, Mrs Jane Egbuko thanked the executive Governor Chukwuma Soludo for allowing the grassroot to enjoy the dividends of democracy through agriculture pledging that ISLGA was solidly in support of his administration.
