Idemili South Chairman to advocate for women, children experiencing abuse, inaugurates councilors

The newly appointed Transition Chairman for Idemili South Local Government Area (ISLGA), Mrs Amaka Obi (Iyom Idemili) has pledged to lead a campaign against wife battering and child abuse saying that everyone deserves the right to life.

Mrs Obi made the pledge at the council headquarters, Ojoto during the inauguration of 14 Liason Officers/Councilors representing the various wards from the seven towns that make up Idemili South, Anambra State.

Addressing the councilors, Mrs Obi said “Security and Deligience are of great importance in Soludo’s administration and we at the Local Government level must toe in that line to support our solution and working Governor.

“Our Governor’s slogan is’ The Solution is here’. I am willing to work with everyone of us as a team and with the help of our stakeholders there will be solution.

“We need information to succeed in the fight against insecurity which has improved in the last few months that Soludo came into office. If you see something,say something. Government will not strike without investigating the person’s phonecalls.

“I have interest in vulnerable women, hawkers, children, househelps, boy or girl child being maltreated by the guardian.Those who send their own children to school but send out the maid to hawk satchet water.

“You at the ward level should inform me about any man battering his wife so that I can help save that woman. Marriage is not by force, that woman is someone’s child.

“I am also ready to caution any woman who is deviant because I know that women do sometimes misbehave. It has always been my passion to defend vulnerable ones. They need protection,”said Mrs Obi.

She further tasked the councilors to drop every malice and rancour and be ready to work saying that quality representation and implementation of policies would ensure good governance at the grassroots.

Earlier in her assumption address, Mrs Obi urged the ISLGA workers to co-operate with her and the councilors in order to form a synergy that would project Idemili South as second to none among the 21 LGAs in Anambra state.

“It is no longer business as usual. Everyone must be punctual and dedicated to his or her duty. The time register will be personally monitored from my office. Report and clock in and out for duty daily.

“Soludo’s administration is that of creativity and productivity. If you have a novel idea communicate to your Head of department, together we can bring solution. Truancy will no longer be tolerated,” she said.

Moreover, the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA Chairman, ISLGA, Chief Joe Ezeanya (Ukwuata Nnobi) after eulogizing the exploits of the new Transition Chairman in the last election said that her appointment was well deserved.

Ezeanya urged the new Transition Committee not to forget the party that brought them to limelight saying that they should ensure that APGA wins in the coming 2023 election by serving the masses well.

Also, the APGA flagbearer for House of Representatives Idemili North & South constituency election, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu (Ike Cubana) represented by Chief Uche Maduekwe advised the councilors to be of good behavior.

“With togetherness and unity with the Chairman there is nothing you cannot achieve. In the next couple of months or years Idemili will be better for it. See this task as a springboard to greater heights,”said Maduekwe.

The liason officers/councilors for ISLGA include Engr. Tonymakas Omaka (Akwuukwu), Anthony Anichebe(Alor 1), Obisike Okeke(Alor 2), Evaristus Ofido Omega (Awkaetiti 1), Chukwubuike Ezeike(Awkaetiti 2), Peter Ezechukwu(Nnobi 1), Anayo Ejiofor(Nnobi 2), Samson Anaezu(Nnobi),

Others are Nnaemeka Orji(Nnokwa), Jane Egbuko(Nnokwa),
Uchechukwu Ubadi(Oba 1), Nzubechukwu Ibe(Oba 2), Ofoma Ubakaeze(Ojoto), Emmanuel Osita Ezeudogu

In a vote of thanks, Engr. Tonymakas Omaka after thanking the Chairman, Stakeholders and Justice of Peace who aided in the inauguration assured that both IDSLGA councilors and Staff will carry out their duties effectively in the interest of the State.

Highlights of the inauguration include prayers by a clergy, administering of oath led by the Barrister Chinwe Akukalia JP, Receiving of Chairman’s handshake by the councilors and photographs.
