Commissioner Nwosu exhorts Journalists To aid Govt In Building Social Harmony

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Paul Nwosu, has commended members of Anambra Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for its support in achieving government set goals.

Speaking at Godwin Ezeemo NUJ Press Centre in Awka, during a monthly Congress of the Union for August, Mr Nwosu represented by the Director of Information in the Ministry Mr Tony Nweke, appealed for more, especially in building social harmony in the state.

Also speaking, the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, Mr Christian Aburime called for the support of journalists in the state in achieving objectives of the present administration.

Mr Aburime, who featured as special guest during the congress said no government can achieve meaningful success without the support of journalists.

He described Governor Soludo as media-friendly, and promised his continued support to activities of the union, adding that the Governor has given approval for stipend to be paid to some members of the union starting soon.

Mr Aburime however noted that though social media has made almost everyone a journalist, there is need for trained practitioners to shun sensationalism, protect their names, while serving the society.

In his remark, the state Chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, said journalists in the state will continue to support and help the Soludo administration to realise the vision of making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.

He appealed for support from government and individuals in making planned overseas training for members a reality, among other outlined programmes, as well as addressing other challenges facing the state chapter of the union.

The NUJ congress, the Information Commissioner, Mr Nwosu, alongside Mr Aburime, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Paul University Awka, Professor Chinyere Okunna, the state Chairman of the NUJ, Dr Odogwu and other members of the union inspected ongoing water project at the NUJ secretariat.
