Idemili health workers undergo training on new National Health Information System

Anambra State Ministry of Health in collaboration with World Health Organization(WHO) and European Union(EU) have embarked on the training of health workers on the latest National Health Information System(NHIS).

The training slated for 8th to 10th June, 2020 at all the 21 Local government council headquarters included health workers from both Federal, State government and private health facilities.

Speaking at Idemili South, Ojoto, one of the facilitators, Lady Edith Ezievuo, representing Association of General and Private Medical Practioners (AGPMP) said that Government had introduced 2019 NHIS register to replace the 2013 NHIS registering.

She said that the health facilities have been using the 2013 NHIS register but government has updated the register to a 2019 version with additional features to make capturing of patients data more detailed.

“The training is about capturing of health data. Every aspect of health is represented in this 2019 version which is a revised version of the former 2013 NHIS register.

“The intention is to ensure that health workers capture everything they do in their facility accurately and report in good time for evaluation.

“This will help government render adequate healthcare delivery and reduce unnecessary deaths.The more accurate the data the better the planning and response”, said Ezievuo.

Earlier in her address, Head of department, Health, Idemili South, Mrs. Grace Umegbolu advised the Officers in charge (OICs) of the health facilities to pay rapt attention to assimilate the new directives.

” Please, pay attention to learn. Ask questions where you don’t understand so as to know what is involved in accurately filling out data, collation and timely sending data back to headquarters”, said Umegbolu.

Moreover, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Idemili South, Mrs. Nnenna Ejikeme said that the three days training was organized by Federal, State and Local government in collaboration with WHO/EU.

“There are new additional features in the general NHIS attendance register. Now you write patients’ name beginning with surname and in capital letters before other names; write Location before facilitiy unlike before and others”, said Ejikeme.

Another participant, a staff of Jesus is Lord hospital and maternity, Oba, Amara Ubah thanked the state government and organizers of the training for updating both government and private hospital staff on current NHIS.
