HURIJE Raises Alarm Over Threat Against its B.O.T Boss

Human Right,Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIJE), has raised alarm over threat to life of its Board of Trustees (BoT), chairman, Dede Uzor, A. Uzor, by some commanders of Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ATMA) and Willie Workforce (WWF) for alerting the State Government over their alleged criminal and extortionist conducts.
In a press conference addressed by the HURIJE’s Legal Secretary, Barr. Ada Obinna Edozie, in Onitsha,she said that since Dede Uzor raised the issue of illegal activities of ATMA which led to the removal of the Commander by the Commissioner for Transport,Hon Uchenna Okafor, and overhauled the section of the agency , he been receiving threatening calls.
She said that on Thursday, January 4, 2019, at bout 3.30 pm, Dede Uzor received a call from one Obinna Ajaegbu, who claimed to be the Commander of ATMA with cell phone number 08105750953.
She said the caller threatened fire and brimestone, questioned the audacity of our BoT chairman to alert State Government over ATMAL officials’ criminal activities.
The ATMA Commander, Obinna was said to have told Uzor that if he was not careful, they would deal with him.
” Few hours after that, he got another call from one Ejike Odife, another Commander of (WWF) with cellphone number 07033672058, who threatened to deal with our chairman.
He also claimed that our petition has led to relieving him of his duty, and vowed that no matter where our chairman is living, he would be dealt with.
Dede Uzor said told HURIJE that Odife went further to send SMS to him, expressing his bitterness over its organizational intervention which led to his removal.
The legal Secretary Bar Adaobinna Edozie call on the Commissioner for Transport to immediately intervene and rescue the residents of Onitsha from the onslaught and high-handedness of of the traffic agency, especially now that the Governor has reappointed him as the Commissioner for Transport in the state.
Bar Obinna Edozie urged the Commissioner to use his wealth of his experience to totally overhaul ATMA and Willie Work Force (WWF), so that they would squarely face the business of decongesting traffic in Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi and Ekwulobia instead of impounding private cars solemnly for financial gain and extortion.
She called on the State Commissioner of Police and the Director of Directorate of State Security (DSS) in the State to arrest these people before they cause and exterminate our chairman and their threatened damage HURIJE said.
