Hon. Onyema Inspects Road Projects in Ogbaru

Member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Prince Chukwuka Onyema, on Friday, inspected the ongoing road projects at the school road, Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru local government Area of Anambra State.

Hon. Onyema who personally visited the construction sites at Amiyi-umuzu and school road said he has inspected the roads himself and has taken notes of the work progress, adding that one thing is to award a contract and another is to make sure the work is done properly.

He said the pace of the work was impressive with the drainage well constructed at Iyiowa. He noted that the project was a precautionary measures against rainy season assuring that the pace of the work will be improved so as to avoid trapping people in their homes.

The lawmaker, while speaking to newsmen hinted that the project was an intervention from the Nigeria Building Research Institute (NIBRI). He said it is in fulfillment of his election promises to the People of Ogbaru adding that inspection of the ongoing projects was necessary to ensure high standard quality of work delivery at the various construction sites.

“The project is in fulfillment of my election promises to people of Ogbaru. We promised to give them solar street light which we have done and also construct the road because people of the area are suffering due to bad roads and poor drainage system. We believe when these social amenities are provided , it will help alleviate their sufferings.

Prince Onyema disclosed that the visit to the road project was to ascertain the scope of the work and  know if the contractors are doing what is expected of them to do. “I want the contractors to do a good work on these roads that is why I personally came for this inspection tour. We inspect and check the road as well as the materials and make sure the work is solid”.

He however, charged the people of Ogbaru especially communities and residents where the road projects are carried out to take ownership of the various projects. He advised them to be vigilant and not allow contractors to do shoddy job citing cases where contractors abscond after collecting their money. “We cannot be everywhere. I urge you all to follow the projects we do in your towns and inform us when anything is going wrong,” Onyema  submitted.

The lawmaker who paid visit to the traditional ruler of Amiyi community, HRH, Igwe Mbanefo Emmanuel, said that the Amiyi -umuzu road project has been temporarily stopped after the contractor failed to adhere to the principles of the contract. He however, insisted that the contractor must present the project specification for review before work will continue again.
