Hon. Ikechukwu Okafor Named NUJ’s Most Inspiring Youth Leader

True success or excellence should not be measured by achievements that benefit only oneself, but by accomplishments that lead to the upliftment and success of others.

Undoubtedly, many individuals are engaged in the noble pursuit of empowering others_ through philanthropy, mentorship, or initiatives that foster growth in various forms.

One such individual is Hon. Engr. Ikechukwu Okafor, CEO and Head Engineer of Prince Iyke Construction Company, who has been recognized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, for his outstanding contributions to youth empowerment. In acknowledgment of his impact, the council has deemed him worthy of the Most Inspiring Youth Leader Award.

In an interview with NUJ delegates, led by Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Chapter, Hon. Okafor shared insights into his journey in the construction industry and the passion that drives his commitment to youth development.

“My journey into entrepreneurship began in 2021, although I’ve been involved in construction for eleven years. The company itself was formally established in 2021,” he said.

“Whenever I encounter a young person with potential, I do everything within my power to help them succeed. In today’s society, it’s rare to see youths actively engaged in meaningful ventures, many are drawn to illegal activities. But if we find someone willing to learn a skill or who shows promise, we support them in every way we can.”

“Through our scholarship scheme, we paid school fees for 114 students at Ozubulu Memorial Secondary School and we have this in our data base. We’ve also helped several youths open shops and start their own businesses. This act are done purely out of charity, and we don’t keep records of them.”

Reflecting on the ripple effect of his empowerment initiatives, Prince Iyke noted that many of his beneficiaries have gone on to help others, a chain of impact he believes can reduce crime and foster a more productive society. He emphasized that his motivation often comes from the zeal and humility he observes in individuals, as well as their ability to manage resources responsibly.

“I’ve never regretted offering help, even when some beneficiaries display attitudes that might discourage others. For me, it’s about seeing potential and nurturing it.”

Hon. Okafor expressed joy and gratitude at being nominated for the NUJ 2025 Most Inspiring Youth Leader Award. He described the honor as a validation of his efforts and those of his company, and encouraged others who are following in his footsteps to remain committed to their good works.

The NUJ Anambra State Council 2025 Press Week and Man of the Year Award Ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 28, 2025, at the International Convention Center (ICC), Awka, Anambra State.
