“He Went to Work with Two Eyes, But Went Home with One ”.-Okpoko mob attack leaves innocent Security Supervisor Nwachukwu blind in One Eye

This is a story that touches the soul. It is a disturbing tale that will deeply upset Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR and his security team, who have worked tirelessly to establish a robust security architecture aimed at safeguarding lives and property to enable hardworking citizens go about their legitimate businesses with relative peace of mind.

Something horrific happened on the morning of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, around Kara, near the Obodoukwu Road Junction in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Mr. Nkemakolam Nwachukwu, 52, a security supervisor working with a major conglomerate in the Ogbaru Industrial Layout, had just completed an exhausting night shift and was on his way home to his family. It was between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., a period when streams of workers, traders, and commuters were heading to their offices and shops.

Without warning, two young men allegedly pounced on him. Before Nwachukwu could recover from the shock or ask what the problem was, the attackers had begun rough-handling him. One of them reportedly claimed that after passing Nwachukwu that morning, he suddenly discovered that his manhood had disappeared.

As the bizarre accusation spread, traders and passers-by around Kara Market gathered at the scene. Within moments, the situation spiraled dangerously out of control. Miscreants and hoodlums reportedly joined the assault without asking questions.

Before anyone could intervene, Nkemakolam Nwachukwu, a man returning home after an honest night’s work, was brutally beaten to the point of coma. In the course of the savage mob attack, one of his eyes was permanently destroyed.

It took the intervention of some off-duty police officers who were heading home that morning, alongside naval personnel who arrived at the scene, to rescue Nwachukwu from the mob that appeared determined to lynch him.

Nwachukwu, his accuser, and the initial assailants were subsequently taken to Harbour Police Station, which oversees the Ogbaru Industrial Layout.

At the station, officers reportedly instructed the accuser to pull down his trousers so they could verify the bizarre allegation. To everyone’s shock, his genitals were completely intact and unharmed.

The disturbing question now being asked by many Ndi Anambra is: what was the real motive behind the near-fatal attack on an innocent man?

After the incident was documented at the police station, Nwachukwu was rushed to the nearby Solution Hospital, Okpoko, where doctors examined his badly damaged eye before referring him to a specialist eye hospital in Nkpor.

There, the Medical Director reportedly confirmed that the affected eye had been irreversibly destroyed. He was later referred again to Guinness Eye Specialist Hospital, where doctors also confirmed that the eye could not be saved.

The hospital prescribed medications to manage the severe pain and to prevent possible complications affecting his second eye.

Beyond the excruciating pain around his eyes, head, and upper body, all mercilessly battered during the attack, Nwachukwu is also complains intense pain in his groin area. Witnesses said some members of the mob repeatedly kicked and punched his genitals in retaliation for the false accusation levelled against him.

At the time of this report, Nkemakolam Nwachukwu, surrounded by his devastated family members, feels shattered and emotionally broken, wondering what he did to deserve such cruelty.

His family fears that powerful interests may attempt to compromise the case being handled at Harbour Police Station and allow the suspected perpetrators to evade justice.

However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the Command had received reports of the incident.

According to him, the matter is under thorough investigation and “no stone will be left unturned” in uncovering exactly what transpired that morning and ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice.

He further assured that the Police Command would keep AlphaTimes and the media updated on developments in the case.
