Governor Abiodun Awards N6 Million to Top Graduates of Ogun Polytechnic

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a ₦2 million cash reward each for three best-graduating students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, during its 5th combined convocation ceremony held on Wednesday. Represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor praised the recipients—Suliyat Yusuf (2023/2024 session), Victor Omontuhen (2022/2023 session), and Theresa Agu (2021/2022 session)—for their academic excellence. Abiodun also highlighted his administration’s ₦200 million investment in the state’s education trust fund, aimed at supporting tertiary institutions. “These efforts underscore our commitment to fostering an education system that equips students to excel in a rapidly changing world,” he said. The event included a posthumous fellowship award to the late Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewumi Onanuga, with the governor extending his condolences to her family. Graduates Challenged to Innovate Addressing the graduates, Salako-Oyedele urged them to become innovators and problem solvers. “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter. Let the knowledge, skills, and values you have gained here guide you in becoming change-makers,” she stated. Academic Excellence Recognized Dr. Sanni Oseni, Rector of the Polytechnic, revealed that 248 graduates earned distinctions across three sessions, comprising 80 National Diploma (ND) and 168 Higher National Diploma (HND) recipients. He encouraged the graduates to uphold excellence and resilience in their careers. Suliyat Yusuf, the overall best-graduating student with a CGPA of 3.91/4.00, motivated her peers to approach future challenges with integrity and positivity. “This is not the end of our journey but the beginning of an exciting phase. Let us use the torch of knowledge to illuminate our paths and make a difference,” she said. Ceremony Highlights The convocation also featured the foundation laying of the institution’s School of Agriculture complex, symbolizing the Polytechnic’s commitment to expanding its academic and infrastructural capacities.
