Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has authorized the recruitment of 500 teachers through the State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to enhance learning in public schools. The announcement was made on Wednesday in Benin by Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Education. Iyamu, confirmed as commissioner earlier this week by the Edo State House of Assembly, emphasized the administration’s commitment to prioritizing education. He explained that the recruitment process would be conducted in phases to address staff shortages in public schools. “The government is dedicated to ensuring that all public schools in Edo State are adequately staffed with qualified teachers,” Iyamu stated. “The era of having only two or three teachers in a school is over. I encourage qualified Nigerians to apply.” Iyamu further assured that the recruitment would be strictly merit-based, reflecting the administration’s focus on quality education delivery.
