Fr. Ebube Muonso’s Divine Rays British school wins Archbishop Valerian Okeke’s Science Competitions

Divine Rays British School, Obosi in Idemili North, Anambra State has clinched 1st position in this year annual Archbishop Valerian Okeke Science Competition(AVOSCO) sponsored by Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese.

Divine Rays British School was recently established by Spiritual Director, Holy ghost Adoration Ministry Uke, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma also known as Fr. Ebubemuonso.

Also, an SS2 student of the college, Ernest Ifeanyi Ofoma took the 1st position in the Senior Category of the science competition with 79 points and was rewarded with a laptop.

All Hallows Seminary school, Onitsha took 2nd position, while Ragina Pacis model secondary School Onitsha took 3rd position in the competition among all the public and private Catholic mission schools in Onitsha Archdiocese.

Also, Eugene Bruno Ayalogu of the All Hallows seminary and Franklin Ekemezie of the Christ the King College, CKC, Onitsha took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in the senior category, scoring 68 and 67 points each.

In junior secondary school category, Deborah Igwilo of the Regina Pacis Model secondary school, Onitsha took the 1st position with 86 points, while John Paul of All Hallows seminary and Somtochukwu Okwuego of Divine Rays took 2nd and 3rd positions scoring 84 and 83 points each.

Presenting the awards to the various winners, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Maduka Okeke explained that the competition was aimed at bringing out hardworking students to limelight.

According to Archbishop Okeke, the best way to learn is to start learning, to achieve greatness, one must embrace the culture of excellence and hardwork. What makes an ordinary student extraordinary is that little extra.

The prelate charged the students to work harder in order to win competitions at both Archdiocesan, national and international arena.

“I am still enjoying the technovation competition won by the students of Regina Pacis in far away United States of America, USA. Noone has monopoly of success, if you work hard you will be the next champion.”

Rev. Fr. Simeon Amuluche, Schools Project manager in the Archdiocese, explained that the essence of the science competition was to encourage student to embrace science and technology which is a tool for self and national development.

“The Archbishop has the vision of producing student who are not afraid of Science courses and who will choose careers that can make them self employed, entrepreneurs and not job seekers”.

“The Archbishop graciously doled out the sum of N40,000 for the first position winners at both junior and senior categories, N30,000 for the second position winners and N20,000 for the third position winners.

“Those who came 4th to 9th positions were given consolation prizes of N5,000 each. Moreover, projector machines were given to both schools with 1st positions while 2nd and 3rd position schools were given printing/photocopying machines,”said Fr. Amuluche.

In her remarks, the Principal,Divine Rays British School Obosi, Mrs Stephanie Ezeibeanu who had six student award recipients thanked the Archbishop, organizers of AVOSCO and Fr. Obimma for providing enabling environment for learning.

In his response, Ernest Ofoma noted that Divine Rays was attending AVOSCO for the first time sayng that he denied himself leisure, stayed back during holiday to study. “I thank God that my hardwork paid off”.
