Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji on his appointment as the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI.
A statement signed by the Executive Director of FENRAD, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, an Abia born Civil society Activist and Environmental & Resource Control Advocate commends President Mohammed Buhari on the appointment which takes effect from Friday 19th February 2020.
FENRAD described Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji from Abia State as a renowned broadcaster, Journalist, natural resource governance expert, political economist, and development Communications specialist.
According to the group, Orji is coming to the job with over 30 years of diverse and extensive experience in the public service, the media industry, and international development sector.
Until his appointment as Executive Secretary, NEITI, Dr. Orji was for several years, the Agency’s Director of Communications and Advocacy.
Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji began his career in the Public Service at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, from where he later worked in management positions in other federal agencies. Dr Orji has also worked with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, where he managed several donor-funded projects. Dr. Orji holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Political Economy and International Development respectively from the University of Abuja.
He is an alumnus of the J. F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, the International Law Institute, George Town University, Washington D.C, the World Bank Institute, the African Development Bank Institute, the Lagos Business School, among other renowned global institutions.
Established in 2004, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, is the key anti-corruption agency at the Presidency responsible for enthroning transparency, accountability, and governance of the country’s oil Resources and ensure remittance of oil Revenue by different MDAs
Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development FENRAD Nigeria applauded the president on the Appointment describing Dr. Orji as the information hub of the NEITI and have contributed to the success Recorded in the ongoing large scale Reforms of the petroleum industry bill before the National Assembly.
FENRAD stressed that Dr. Orji’s media knowledge and public communication background adequately positioned him to the task of driving the runinng of the extractive sector and pushing for the much needed Reforms in the oil and Gas sector based on his vast knowledge on the EITI process.
FENRAD urges Dr. Orji to use this appointment to bring the much needed Reforms to reposition the oli and gas sector and deepen NEITI intervention in the EITI process.
