Fear, tension as mystery deaths hit community

There is fear in Umuguma, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo state as no fewer than thirteen persons on Monday were rushed to the Specialists hospital after they were found lying unconscious in a room.

About five of them were allegedly to be confirmed dead at the hospital. 

Eyewitnesses gave different versions of the tragic story that took place in a room at Obokwu/Umuekpu village in Obinze, Owerri West LGA in the State.

Among the victims, was said to be the Chief Driver of the Imo East Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Onyeagocha, whose name was identified as Kingsley Oguzie, as well as some members of the family.

Some villagers who spoke to Ikengaonline said the victims were about 13 in number and weaved the causes of the tragic incident from fumes from a generator set, food poisoning, and to spiritual manipulations.

A community leader, of the area, Ejike Oparanozie, who was short of words also described it as a mystery.

At the time of filing this report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Michael Abbtam, said Police have moved in, to investigate the matter.
