There is fear and apprehension among the students of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka over recent cases of cult and robbery related activities targeted at student hostels located along the UNIZIK -Ifite axis of Awka town.

An eyewitness who refused his name on print said the unknown miscreants, believed to be cultists, invaded the area around 8:30 am, Monday and broke into God’s Mercy lodge, Dynamo Junction, Ifite Awka.

The eyewitness said the armed cultists numbering three, told residents of the area that they were not robbery gang but cultists on a mission of vengeance.

“They were three average looking men who were armed and dangerously looking. They said that they were not armed robbers and that they did not come to rape anyone or steal any property, rather they were Cultists looking for one of their members to kill.

“We have been living in this lodge in peace and unity not until this today. I woke up this morning due to noises I was hearing from the environment, I suspected that something bad was happening and the first thing that came to my mind was that it was a robbery. I decided to stay in my room and keep the doors locked to make sure I was safe till the environment returns to normalcy”.

Another said: “The cultists did not mention the floor or the room number in which they were looking for the person, but they told us that the next time they would come to the lodge no one would be safe”.
