FCCPC to partner Enugu School Board on consumer literacy, sensitisation

Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, will collaborate with the Enugu State Post Primary School Management Board (PPSMB) to sensitise young consumers at secondary schools in level in Enugu State on their rights and responsibilities as consumers.

The FCCPC South-East Zonal office team led by the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Nwafor Anthony Izunna, paid an advocacy visit to the Chairman, Post Primary School Management Board, Dr. (Mrs) Ngozi Favour Ugwuanyi, in her Enugu office.

In his speech, Mr. Nwafor stated that FCCPC as a federal agency was established under the FCCP Act of 2018 with mandate to promote and protect the consumers’ interest.

He further mentioned other mandates of the Commission to include; to promote choices, ensure fairness towards protecting the interest of the consumers among others.

He stated that the Commission was established to organise, undertake campaigns and other forms of activities capable of promoting increased private and public consumer awareness. 

He stated that FCCPC seeks to collaborate with the Board for a joint sensitisation and awareness campaign to the secondary schools students, using the the formation of “Young Consumers Club” in all the secondary schools in Enugu State.

Earlier in her address of welcome, Dr. (Mrs) Ngozi Ugwuanyi commended the Commission for the zeal and determination to reach out to the young ones, especially those at the rural areas. She stated that, FCCPC’s

“Young Consumer Club” in secondary schools will also aid in educating the dwellers on their rights and responsibilities as consumers through the knowledge the club will impact on the students/teachers.

The Chairman also assured the FCCPC team of Board’s readiness to grant any logistics assistance to the Commission when the need arises.

Highlights of the visit include the presentation of educational materials from the Commission to Board Chairman, and general sensitisation of Senior and Junior Secondary school graduands present at the opening ceremony of the “Holiday Skill Acquisition Programme” (organised by the Board) on the mandates and functions of the commission by the FCCPC team
