FCCPC seeks partnership with UNIZIK on research, consumer protection

The South-East Zonal office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) will collaborate with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, for awareness creation and sensitisation on the mandates of the commission, information sharing as well as joint research with the institution. 

The South-East Zonal team led by Mr. Nwafor, Anthony Izunna, paid an advocacy visit to the Vice- Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone FAS in his office at Awka.

 

In his speech, Mr. Nwafor stated that FCCPC as a Federal Government Agency established under the FCCP Act of 2018 is established with the mandate to promote and protect the consumers’ interests in competitive market environment.

He further mentioned other mandates of the Commission to include; to promote choices, ensure fairness towards protecting the interest of the consumers among others. The Commission has the mandate to remove from the markets hazardous products and services.

And also to create public awareness through seminars, workshops, studies and make available information with regards to the exercise of its powers and performance of its functions to the public. 

In his welcome speech, the institution Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone FAS commended the Commission for their zeal and determination to protect the unsuspecting consumers from unethical practices by some  manufacturers, products and service providers which are not in the good interest of the consumers, and the readiness to work with the commission in the areas possible.

Prof. Esimone assured the commission of institution’s preparedness to partner with FCCPC towards achieving the commission’s mandate.

He further admonished the commission to make provision for those staff and students with special needs. He also assured the Commission of his readiness to provide supports  to achieve its mandate. 

Highlights of the visit was the presentation of educational materials from the Commission to the Vice Chancellor.
