FCCPC Seeks More Collaboration with SON for Increased Consumer Choice, Protection

Apex consumer protection agency in Nigeria, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has initiated collaboration with the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) towards improving the well-being of the people.

The FCCPC Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Nwafor Anthony Izunna and team of staff of the commission, yesterday visited the Regional Director of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), in his office at Awka.

FCCPC team said the essence of the visit was to improve on the existing partnership and collaboration between the FCCPC and SON towards achieving the mandate of the regulatory body in the State.

Recall that FCCPC was established under the FCCP Acts of 2018; to promote choices, ensure fairness towards protecting the interest of the consumers, while SON was established to ensure that, products manufactured locally in the country and those imported into Nigeria are standardized.

Highlight of the visit was the exchange of educational materials by both agencies and tour to some of SON’s facilities in Awka.

The Commission also carried out its routine checks on the major Departmental stores, Supermarkets and Eateries within Awka and its environs, as this is to ensure that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) mete out to the operators are strictly adhered to.
