Enugwu-Ukwu Development Union inaugurates Caretaker Committee For Umuakwueze Village

Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) today, Sunday, 17th January, 2021 inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for Umuakwueze village, Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. 

The Committee will serve until June 2021 when elections into the various positions will be conducted. 

The five – man Caretaker Committee has Chika Nwana as Chairman and  Chinedu Mmaduka as Secretary. 

Chizoba Oranye, Onyeka Okeke and Uche Abala are the other members of the Committee. 

The appointment of Caretaker Committee follows the expiration of the tenure of the previous executive at the end of December 2020, and the recommendations of a three – man panel of enquiry appointed by the Traditional Ruler of the community, Igwe Sir Ralph Ekpeh aimed at restoring confidence in the leadership of the village, and averting crises.

Umuakwueze Development Union (UCDU) seeks to coordinate, encourage brotherliness, promote the welfare of Umuakwueze indigenes for the progress and development of the village. 

In his charge, a community stakeholder, Chief Emeka Odezugo  asked members of the committee to always consult Ndi Umuakwueze, and stakeholders as they lead the village. He adviced them to listen to the hearts of the people, even as he appealed for support to enable the committee succeed in their mandate. He prayed for all- inclusive leadership and for God to direct their path.

Earlier, a community leader, Chief Emmanuel Okoye said that the new Caretaker Committee are made up of trusted people who will commit themselves to bring justice and peace to the village while asking them to see ECDU as a responsible body that is willing to assist them towards achieving their objectives.

Speaking on behalf of the ECDU, the President General of the town, Comrade Bonny Ozo Nkwuaku, represented by the Mr. Martin Dike who led a delegation of the ECDU to the inauguration, asked them to adhere to the laid -down rules of Enugwu-Ukwu, and Umuakwueze community in order to achieve their mandate and reminded them that their post is temporary, and that they should work towards organizing a general election in June 2021.

The terms of reference of the Caretaker Committe is to ensure peace and togetherness, organize and conduct elections within six months of their inauguration.
