Enugwu-Ukwu Celebrates 63rd Igu – Aro Festival

Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area has celebrated the sixty-third “Igu-aro” Festival, during which special prayers were offered for the New Year.

The festival, which is the tenth, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh is celebrating in his eleventh year on the throne, equally provided opportunity to recognize deserving individuals for providing scholarships, healthcare services and empowerment for the youths, among others.

While performing the traditional function of “iwa Oji”, Igwe Ekpeh thanked God for His protections in the past year, and prayed for his blessings in the New Year.

He described the festival as the biggest cultural event in the community, calling for joint efforts in showcasing  more Igbo cultures and festivals to the global community.

The President-General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union, Comrade Bonny Ozo Nkwuaku, his Enugwu-Agidi counterpart, Dr. Chidi Okoye, and a prominent son of Enugwu-Ukwu, Ambassador Elijah Oyeagba, said “Igu- aro” has remained a unifying factor among Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu na umu Nri, praying God to sustain the unity and enrich Igwe Ekpeh with wisdom.

Chieftaincy title recipients at the event, including Chiefs Anthony Okoli-Aboh and Bob Ugonabo, thanked God and Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu for the honour, and promised to do more of the good works that earned them the honour. UPSOT

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, represented by Dr. Patrick Obi, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, and traditional rulers of Abba, Igwe Sir Leonard Ezeh, Nimo, Igwe Maximus Oliobi, and their Ochuche-Umuodu counterpart, Igwe Sir Ike Ijomah, as well as  Dr. Ramaz Asuzu, were among political, religious, community leaders and cultural exponents that attended the event.

Highlights of the 2021 “Igu-aro festival were masquerades and cultural dance displays and royal dance, led by Igwe Ekpeh and his cabinet members, including the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Chief Dr. Uche Nworah.
