Enugu ministry of Justice trains officers on law reporting

In its search for better justice delivery, the Enugu State Ministry of Justice has organized a one-day training for officers in the Law Reporting Department of the Ministry. The training was held in Enugu on Monday by the office of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, in collaboration with the President of the Enugu State Customary Court of Appeal. Speaking during the training, the Director, Law Reporting and Revision, Mr. N. N Anya Esq, said that justice delivery would be enhanced if the laws and proceedings are reported correctly. The Director regretted that the department had been comatose over the years, but added that with the pursuit for optimal performance by the Gov. Peter Mbah administration and the corresponding stride of the Attorney General, the department would soon start regular publishing of law reports of the judgements of the State High Court. Anya appealed to the Commissioner to secure funds and other resources to enable the department discharge its mandate. The Lead Resource Person, T.S. Ugwuja, of the Customary Court of Appeal, thanked the Attorney-General of the state, Mr Kingsley Udeh, for the synergy and mutual working relationship between the Ministry of Justice and the Customary Court of Appeal. Ugwuja hinted that the training would be a continuous process since the skill for reporting judgement was acquired over time through continuous learning and practice. He applauded the commissioner for training the staff of the ministry. Some of the papers delivered at the training included: Importance of accurate law reporting, enhancing skills across the law reporting processes and advancing law reporting through the collaboration between the Ministry of Justice and the Courts. Ugwuja then implored the law officers to ensure that the lessons learned during the training were effectively implemented to contribute to optimal justice delivery, through accurate and comprehensive law reporting. At the end of the training, Mrs Ify Ik-Obi, on behalf of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, thanked the resource person and his team for such an in-depth training. (NAN)
