#EndSars: Protest turns sour as police shots in Osun State

Men of the Nigeria Police, Ile-Ife, Osun State have dispersed an ongoing protest against the brutality and extra-judicial killing of young Nigerians by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Police on Friday.

Earlier, Mobile Police officers stationed at Olaiya Junction, Osogbo allegedly shot sporadically into the air to disperse protesting youths after it turned violent following the arrest of protesters.

At Ile-Ife, it was gathered that the protesters who converged at the Obafemi Awolowo University main gate, Ile-Ife commenced the peaceful protest by walking to the Ooni of Ife palace, where they were addressed by Ife High Chiefs on behalf of the king.

Afterwards, the youths moved to the Moore Police station, bearing placards with various inscriptions demanding total disbandment of police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

However, the Police have allegedly fired teargas canisters at the protesters to disperse the crowd and prevented them from accessing the premises.

It was gathered that some protesters were arrested while some vehicles were impounded.

In Osogbo, the state capital of Osun, DAILY POST reports that the police officers stationed at Olaiya Junction allegedly shot sporadically in the air to disperse the protesting youths.

The arrest of the two protesters almost led to violence again as other protesters stormed the police base where their APC vehicle was packed demanding for the release of their colleagues.

The policemen also seized placards and allegedly arrested two of the protesters.
