Human Rights Lawyer and Social Critic Sir Ifeanyichukwu Ejiofor Esq has commended the wounded Pilot for Heroic Safe Landing of Plane With 174 Passengers Onboard on September 30, 2026 after being attacked by a co-pilot  aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel.

According to Ejiofor, WHEN GOD DEFIED THE SHADOW OF DEATH: THE MIRACULOUS SURVIVAL OF 174 SOULS AND THE HEROIC COURAGE OF A WOUNDED PILOT.

“I couldn’t let everybody else die.”

“The heroic Flydubai pilot whose courage, against the harrowing odds, became a symbol of hope and the preciousness of human life.

On 30 September 2026, the world witnessed a terrifying mid-air ordeal aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel, with 174 passengers on board. What began as an ordinary international journey suddenly descended into a nightmare when the co-pilot  launched a violent attack on the captain, stabbing him and sending the aircraft into a dangerous plunge.

In the face of unimaginable pain, severe injuries and the looming prospect of death, Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national with 17 years of flying experience, displayed extraordinary courage. Bleeding and gravely wounded, he summoned the strength to unlock the cockpit door, enabling passengers to intervene, overpower the assailant and prevent a possible catastrophe. Two off-duty pilots on board subsequently helped regain control of the aircraft, which made an emergency landing at Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. All passengers survived.

The captain’s poignant declaration, “I was not going to let others die,” captures the extraordinary selflessness of a man who, even while fighting for his own life, remained resolutely committed to saving others. His courage, complemented by the remarkable intervention of passengers and crew, transformed a potential mass tragedy into a profound testimony to human resilience, solidarity and the preciousness of life.

For us who believe in the abiding sovereignty of the Almighty, this extraordinary survival is a compelling reminder that, even in humanity’s darkest moments, God’s mercies can manifest in ways beyond human comprehension. At a time when Israel continues to remember the horrific attacks of 7 October 2023, this incident carries a deeply moving significance for those who see divine providence in the preservation of innocent lives. The precise motive behind the co-pilot’s actions remains under investigation and should not be prejudged.

May the Almighty God, the God of Israel, grant Captain Smit Machchhar complete healing, restore his strength and bless him with many more years of purposeful service. May He also comfort all those traumatised by this harrowing experience and preserve humanity from such preventable tragedies.

This incident underscores the urgent need for strengthened psychological and security screening of flight personnel, continuous monitoring of potential threats, robust cockpit access safeguards, effective emergency response protocols and regular crew training for violent in-flight emergencies. Aviation authorities must thoroughly investigate this incident and implement any additional safeguards necessary to prevent a recurrence.

Indeed, every life is sacred, and no journey should become a death sentence through a preventable security failure.

To God Almighty alone be all the glory, honour and adoration,” said Ejiofor.
