Educators Call For Inclusion Of Youths In Decision-Making For National Development
The Anambra State Government has flagged off the 2025/2026 Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) Joint Leadership Training Ceremony for new prefects in the state.
The training for new school prefects in public and mission secondary schools across Anambra State, themed “Youth Leadership and National Development,” took place at Father Joseph Memorial High School, Aguleri, in the Otuocha Education Zone.
In her address, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, explained that the gathering was not merely to mark the beginning of a training programme but to ignite a leadership revolution that will reshape the destiny of Anambra State and Nigeria.
She noted that the progressive vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has placed education and youth empowerment at the very heart of the state’s governance agenda, adding that they are not just building classrooms but also building character, training not just prefects but raising future governors, commissioners, captains of industry, and nation-builders.
In a lead paper presentation, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Umueze Anam, Mr. Dominic Okafor, pointed out that given the failure of older generations of Nigerian political leaders to bring about the desired national development over the years, it is imperative that youths be actively empowered and included in governance, as they represent the future and embody the potential for transformative and developmental change, noting that the continued marginalisation of youths in decision-making poses a threat to good governance and national development.
The Secretary of PPSSC, Mrs. Benedine Anagor, expressed her gratitude to the Otuocha Education Zone for its hospitality, conduct, and the quality of resource persons who spoke during the training, and advised them to sustain the standard.
The Manager of the school, Reverend Father Patrick Anadumaka, noted that the theme of the event is timely because no nation can develop without responsible and disciplined young people, and thanked the organisers for giving his school the privilege of hosting the programme.
Other resource persons who spoke during the training were the Principal of Community Secondary School, Ifite Mmili, Mrs. Stella Onochie; the Principal of Community Secondary School, Omasi, Mrs. Ebele Anichukwu; and the Principal of Community Secondary School, Igbakwu, Mrs. Josephine Israel.
The ceremonial oath-taking and decoration of the new prefects with badges by the Secretary of PPSSC, Mrs. Benedine Anagor, formed the climax of the event.
